Starting point: Pfronten
End point: Pfronten
From Pfronten you head through the beautiful Vilstal valley to Schattwald. There you not only ride relaxed through the valley, but also take fine gravel paths with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain scenery.
After a nice descent, you arrive in Tannheim and ride the road that is closed to car traffic during the day up to Vilsalpsee. This is the best opportunity for a short break with a view and for a swim stop! Cooling your feet is also very refreshing if you don't have swimwear with you.
Then it goes back to Pfronten through the Achtal – a gentle descent where you can really speed up (provided you are not slowed down by cows).
Warning: The Achtal is pasture land, and cows roam free there during the summer months! Also, cattle grids are embedded in the road at the beginning and end of the valley, which can be ridden over by bike, but you should still be prepared for them!
The route is not suitable for gravel beginners, as many steep sections await you and the gravel requires certain riding skills. So if you want it a bit more relaxed, just stay in the valley in the Tannheimer Tal between Zöblen and Tannheim and follow the signage of the Allgäu cycling round – the detour to Vilsalpsee is also optional.
