Lake Constance cycle route FRW

Starting point: Nonnenhorn

End point: Bregenz

We start our section of the Lake Constance circuit in Nonnenhorn, the beautiful spa and wine village. The long-standing winemaking tradition lives on in the “Rädlewirt­schaften,” which still operate traditional farm and estate taverns. Here you can find one of the oldest wine presses in the region at the Nonnenhorn wine press, which is a protected monument. Shortly after, we reach the spa town of Wasserburg. The landmark of the town is the picturesque peninsula, which is home to St. Georg Church, the Wasserburg Castle completed in 1555, and the Malhaus Museum. Then we arrive in Lindau, the large district town and administrative center of the region. The historic center is the island of Lindau, whose image is shaped by the graceful buildings, the large harbor with lighthouse and Bavarian Lion, and the colossal Heidenmauer. The route then takes us to the Austrian community of Lochau. Shortly thereafter, we arrive in the state capital Bregenz, which hosts the most important port on Lake Constance in Austria. The city is known for the world’s largest open-air lake stage, where the Bregenz Festival is held annually. Further along, the Lake Constance cycle route follows the southern shore into Swiss territory. We cycle close to the shore via Rorschach and Romanshorn, until we cross the bridge at Kreuzlingen and reach Konstanz, returning to German soil. Here there is the option to shorten the route by 56 km by taking the ferry to Meersburg. Otherwise, we continue following the Lake Constance cycle route signs through Überlingen, Meersburg, and Friedrichshafen until we pass Kressbronn. Once we return to Nonnenhorn, we have completed the Lake Constance circuit.
